Had a great day today. Although it didn’t really start till 7:30pm. For the first time I may have felt like I have friends. Andrew, Bryan, and Rob are some of the most awesome guys I know. Steve’s still cool after a couple years of not seeing me (although the lack thereof has apparently caused him to put on about 10 pounds). And his brother Mike is apparently friends with Bryan’s brother Jason. And they’re both apparently friends with big Kenny. Big Kenny, the guy I used to be jealous of because he hung out with Leah and Kirsten and all the volleyball girls and I couldn’t.
Well now I’m apparently friends with Kenny. Didn’t see that coming. But I won’t complain.
So, in the course of studying for my exams, I designed a flag for Svalbard. Since it’s close to the North Pole, I tried to go for the “polar look.” Check it out, see what you think?

So apparently, John Madden’s husband Brett Favre is looking to sign with the Vikings (again). But this time he can, because he’s been released from his contract with the Jets, so he can sign with any team he wants. And it’d definitely be good for the Vikes if they sign him. They’re still just a QB away from a Super Bowl. Right now they have Sage Rosenfels, the 18′th best QB in the league, and Tarvaris Jackson, the 38th. Their offensive line is nasty, and they’ve got great receivers in Bernard Berrian and Percy Harvin, and Chester Taylor, oh and did I mention Adrian Peterson, best RB in the league. Their defense is top 5 for sure. And they’ve got quite a bit of cap room, so they can accommodate even Favre and more.
So if we see him join the Vikings … well it’s a free ticket to the NFC Championships at least. And who might they be playing against?
1. New York Giants. These guys are awesome. They have a top 5 defense and Eli Manning. Also, they’re in a relatively easy division.
2. New Orleans Saints. If they can play some defense for once, the rocket arm of Drew Brees will drive the Saints into the championship game.
3. Seattle Seahawks. An awesome offense that’s only getting better.
Wild Cards
4. Atlanta Falcons.
5. Arizona Cardinals.

Congratulations, Delegate Donald H. Dwyer, MD state delegate from District 31. You have won the Hero of the Millennium Award. And boy do you deserve it.

You are one of the few Americans who realize that the American Dream has nothing to do with being successful and raising your kids into a world that will accept them for who they are; it’s about going on a crusade against equal rights for same-sex couples. Upon hearing that Conaway v. Deane & Polyak, which would have granted marriage licenses to nine Maryland couples, was being heard by the Baltimore Circuit Court, you flipped your lid. You introduced countless proposals into the state legislature which would have blocked the attempt altogether. After Judge Murdock ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, you sponsored HB48, which would have added an amendment to the state constitution banning same-sex marriages. When the state Court of Appeals finally ruled against Conaway, you didn’t even stop to party — you introduced a resolution to impeach Judge Murdock for daring to find in favor of the plaintiffs. You have also averaged two amendment proposals per year, and it shows your perseverance, especially since they are consistently defeated with greater and greater margins (13-6 for your latest 2009 attempt, which had the added perk of banning the mere discussion of same-sex marriage in public schools).
Sir, you know what it takes to be a true American. You have overcome looking like a drunk frat kid with Down’s syndrome and are a role model for homophobes throughout the world. Maryland is proud of you.
This makes me want to tell Delegate Dwyer how much we appreciate his work.
