The Skins are one of those teams that just needs one more push to become a Super Bowl team (aside from the fact that they need a better kicker).
They could see themselves second or even first in the NFC East if they just did one thing … sign a better quarterback to start ahead of Jason Campbell. And they know who they need. They drafted him in the seventh round of the 1994 draft. That’s right ladies and gentlemen, he is none other than Gus Frerotte.

He started with the Redskins in 1994, and was named to the Pro Bowl in 1996.

For the 1999 season, Frerotte, who was considered an underperformer, went to the Detroit Lions, the most recent time they were anywhere close to good. Frerotte was second-string QB, behind Charlie Batch. He started for the Lions in the playoffs.

In 2000, Frerotte was brought to the Denver Broncos, and was the best backup they ever had. He started for the Broncos in the playoffs, but lost to the Ravens, who eventually won the Super Bowl.

Frerotte’s worst stint as QB came with the Bengals, then led by the defensive genius Dick LeBeau. Unfortunately, LeBeau could not organize an offensive play, and the Bengals failed, much like they still do.

In 2003, Frerotte, by now recognized as a sturdy and reliable backup, was signed by the Vikings, to back up the great Daunte Culpepper.

Two years later, Frerotte won his first starting job in years, with the Miami Dolphins. He succeeded Jay Fiedler (who succeeded Dan Marino in 1999) and led them to a winning season. However, the Dolphins had other plans for their offense and cut Frerotte after one season, in order to sign Culpepper.

In 2006, Frerotte was signed to the Rams to back up Marc Bulger. (He should have started.)

In 2008, Frerotte, a free agent, was picked up by the Vikings when Tarvaris Jackson began to fail. Under Frerotte, the Vikings went 8-3. Unfortunately, he hurt his back and his season was over. However while the starter, he tied the NFL record for the longest touchdown pass (99 yards).
So you know he’s a great quarterback. I think the Redskins should sign him now (while they don’t have to cut down to 53 players just yet). See how he plays in a preseason game. Then sign him if he’s good. Therefore their QB depth would be such:
1. Gus Frerotte
2. Jason Campbell
3. Todd Collins
4. Chase Daniel
No there is no Colt Brennan on that lineup. He gets released.
